The Michael Voss Supercoach Approach 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Michael Voss is possibly the greastest SuperCoach addict of them all. His off season trigger happy trading antics mirror the behaviours of an obsessed Supercoach tragic looking to shuffle his side weekly. No doubt Voss is suffering a servere case of post purchase dissonance as he ponders "What have I done?". We all know the feeling Michael.

SuperCoach season 2009 is now done and dusted. One team in 16 is celebrating a premiership victory. And of course, one team in 350,000 is celebrating a $55k cash bonus for their overall points tally. You don't need to be a mathematician to conclude that the overwhelming majority are losers.

The side finished in the top 1000, at a credible 946th overall. Enough to take at the best overall finish in the league. However,  the solid finish unfortunatley didn't equal league premiership glory. No, those honors went to bitter rival Snoop Dawg by 20pts, who runs the "In the Dawghouse" section on the site. And the man who did the late damage was notorious Supercoach veteran, Lindsay Gilbee. His heroic final quarter backline chipping surely had Joel Bowden muttering to himself in his retirement armchair, "Gee, that boy can play". No doubt Gilbee did the maths before the match as he embarked on his own Supercoach title tilt, and adapted his game accordingly. Well, at least we like to believe so.

Will you pick Ablett if his price is:

So what to do now?

It's back to the drawing board.

The hectic off season trade period has already produced many surprises. These need to be monitored closely over the pre-season.

The big name of course is Brendon Fevola. His Grand Final Footy Show efforts tipped the scales in the direction of packing his bags and moving from Carlton. His new home, Brisbane, sees him line-up along side Jonathan Brown, a proven Supercoach performer. But what impact will they cause on each others game? The early conclusion is that Brown will move further up the ground, a very promising sign that his SC value could be on the rise in 2010.

Darren Jolly to Collingwood provides a dilemma for the rucks next year. Sydney rucks have always performed well in SC due to their style of game on the SCG. With a move to the MCG, will Jolly be able to improve his SC output? One would certainly think he can. Once again, this will need to be monitored over the preseason along with other starting ruck options such as Dean Cox, Hamish McIntosh, David Hille, Aaron Sandilands, Matthew Kruezer and Kurt Tippet.

Another ruckman on the move is Mark Seaby to Sydney, though unless he produces a stellar pre season, I can't see many jumping on board. Jesse White could possibly be a good gamble for second ruck. Or Shane Mumford? Who knows what the Swans have in store for their ruck lineup.

Shaun Burgoyne could well be a top pick up next year with his new career beginning at Hawthorn. With all the attention likely to go to Mitchell, Sewell and Hodge, Burgoyne could be in for a huge bounty of points in 2010.

Similarly, Brock McLean may be able to rediscover his good early career form at Carlton. With the Blues likely to again make finals next year, a star studded midfield could possible see McLean once again become a handy Supercoach pickup.

One of the more bizarre trades of course was Mark Williams to Essendon. This one came out of the blue. With Scott Lucas and Matthew Lloyd calling it a day, the Bombers will look to 'Shooter' to become their goal kicker. It worked for Williams at a struggling hawks in 2005 / 06, with the forward booting 60 goals each season. Could he replicate this at the Bombers? His price is certain to be appealing.

Bradd Dalziell to West Coast was one of Michael Voss's strange offloads. The club had been developing the midfielder for a couple of years, and late in 2008 he looked like a ball magnet, and a SC gem. However, now he finds himself at the Eagles, a side littered with players who get plenty of the ball, like Matt Priddis and Daniel Kerr.

Finally, to the favourite trade of the year. Big bad bustling Barry Hall. The juicy forward lineup of Hall, Johnson and Akermanis is likely to turn many away from selecting any of them for SC service. But fantasy aside, this will be entertaining to say the least.

So for now, we have some things to ponder for our 2010 SC sides. With the drafts coming up shortly, it will be time to analyse the rookies and cash cow options. And who knows, maybe Voss still has more trades up his sleeve. Or did he use his 20 already?

Apologies for the lack of updates late in the season. The new re-developement of the website will enusre consistency in frequency of updates for the future. Thanks again for the feedback.
